PLEASANT MEADOW FARM –
SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM OUTLINE Pleasant Meadow Farm’s Summer Camp is geared toward a well rounded experience for children ages 6 – 16. Beginners are welcome and no prior horse experience is necessary. Weather is not a problem at Pleasant Meadow, even on inclement days we will be able to ride in the bright indoor arena. Educational classes teaching all aspects of horsemanship including feeding programs, health and wellness of the equine, etc, will be held in our second floor gallery classroom overlooking the indoor ring. Riding lessons on Pleasant Meadows wonderful Horses and Ponies are both fun and rewarding. Pleasant Meadow has a variety of well trained horses and ponies including Welsh crosses, Morgans, Warmbloods, Thoroughbreds & Draft crosses, and our Miniature Horse. Riding lessons are focused on a balanced seat that will prepare them for any riding discipline. Students will also be introduced to Driving as well. Small groups will give us the opportunity to focus on each child as an individual and help them achieve their personal riding goals. Instruction will be provided by qualified adults and the Pleasant Meadow teenage students are here to assist. Clinics with the vet, farrier and or equine dentist will give the kids firsthand experience with additional facets of horsecare. Students will create their own virtual horse and through classes in horse management determine the best feeding program, best turn out situation, best exercise program, etc.for each of their individual horses. Games will be played both on and off the horses, including a “horseless” horse show, arts/crafts, and kids should bring a bathing suit for a bit of “slip & slide” in the yard. Each week will conclude with a Demonstration Day where the children can showcase what they’ve learned to their parents. They will decide what accomplishment they’re most proud of and demonstrate their newly acquired skill. A sleepover the second to last night will give the kids an opportunity to work on their team building skills as well as prepare for the demonstrations the following day. Dress will be casual but appropriate heeled boots (preferably a riding boot - no construction boots) and current approved riding helmets must be worn. Kids should bring a bag lunch (fridge available), and a change of clothes for non-horse activities. Feel free to call Joanne at Pleasant Meadow Farm at (973) 464-5758 with specific questions or email pleasantmeadowfarm@yahoo.com. |
